The Ideal Dental Implants Candidate
What makes you a good candidate for implants?
Dental implants are extremely versatile, able to replace anywhere between a single and a full mouth of missing teeth with a range of supported prosthetics.

Good overall health
If you have a preexisting condition, such as uncontrolled diabetes, or if you take medications that may interfere with your recovery, then you may want to discuss alternative treatments with us. The better health you are in, the better candidate you are for dental implants.

Adequate jawbone volume
A good implant requires strong jaw support to keep it firmly in place. If you lack the necessary jaw bone volume to anchor an implant, then it's possible to get a bone graft to strengthen and reinforce your jawbone. Some patients can receive mini dental implants, which use smaller implant posts, instead of standard implants to forego a bone graft.

Healthy gums
It's important that your gums are healthy enough for the procedure. If you're suffering from gum disease, then you will need to seek the proper treatment before you can receive implants. And to make sure your implants last as long as possible, you should continue to practice good oral health habits to keep your gums and teeth healthy.
To discuss whether implants are the right choice for you, then give us at (714) 795-3865 to schedule a consultation. We're always happy to explore all of your options with you.

Replacing Your Tooth: Dental Implant vs Dental Bridge
Weighing your options for the best tooth replacement for you.
While dental implants are often considered the best tooth replacements available, there’s more than one option for you to restore a missing tooth here at Gold Coast Dental Tustin. We want you to repair your smile on your terms. When you’re replacing anywhere from one to a few teeth, we also have dental bridges. But how do they measure up with one another? While implants secure themselves directly into your jaw, bridges require modifying neighboring teeth to hold your new teeth in place. A bridge sandwiches the false tooth between two connected dental crowns, which are anchored in place on the two teeth on either side of your missing tooth gap. The teeth are filed down to fit the crowns,
and the new tooth (or teeth) can sit neatly in the space between. Bridges often last between 10 to 15 years, but they can last more than 20 years with excellent care and maintenance. Advantages of Dental Bridges: more affordable than implants, less invasive procedure, quicker procedure, quicker recovery period, and does not require potential bone graft surgery. Advantages of Dental Implants: prevents bone loss and facial sagging, does not affect nearby teeth, no additional dental hygiene steps or concerns, and longer lasting. If you need assistance in making your decision between dental implants and bridges, our Tustin team is here for you. You can reach us at (714) 795-3865 to schedule a consultation with one of our periodontists today!

Are dental implants removable or do they stay in your mouth?
Dental implants are firmly rooted into your bone, replacing teeth in a manner that most closely resembles natural teeth. The implant itself is meant to act as a tooth root holding the rest of the artificial tooth in place. Even with implant-supported dentures, the denture itself may be removable but not the implant post keeping it steady.
-
Can you replace all your teeth with dental implants?
Absolutely! Our Tustin dental office offers multiple full mouth dental implants options for our patients. We understand how important it is to enjoy your smile on your terms. We have a selection of implant-supported dentures (permanent dentures) that connect to dental implants, securing themselves in place with more stability. These permanent dentures are removable, but we also have All-on-4 dental implants, which are similar to denture implants, except they are fixed firmly in place.
-
What is the All-on-4 treatment concept?
All-on-4 dental implants are a way for patients missing a whole arch or smile of teeth to permanently replace their smile while benefitting from the advantages of dental implants. All-on-4s anchor a full arch prosthetic on four implants spread across strategic points of your arch for unmatched stability. As your artificial teeth will be screwed into the implants, there is no chance of your teeth slipping or falling out like with permanent dentures. There is a similar All-on-6 implant procedure that anchors the denture on six implants instead of four.

Does a missing tooth need to be replaced?
Unless it's a wisdom tooth, we highly recommend that you replace any extracted teeth in your mouth as early as you can. Neighboring teeth support each other, and a missing tooth deprives surrounding teeth of the adequate support they need to stay in place. The bone where the tooth was begins to deteriorate, and nearby teeth start shifting into the space left behind. This causes facial sagging, irritates the gums, and makes it more difficult for you to eat. A proper tooth prosthetic, fit to a T to your mouth, keeps your smile exactly how you love it.
-
How much are dental implants?
The cost of dental implants varies greatly based on a number of factors, like location and the dentist's discretion. There's also the consideration of whether you need any additional services like custom abutments, bone grafts, and crowns. Call us at (714) 795-3865 to set up a consultation where we can discuss specific price points.
-
How long is the implant process?
The entire tooth implant process is usually 6 to 8 months long. This allows for healing time in between surgeries, including the 4 to 6 month period after the first surgery where your implant must fuse to the jaw. If there isn't enough bone to support the implant, an additional 3 to 6 months should be added into your timetable to allow for your mouth to heal from a needed bone graft.
