Although we may not like it, it's only natural that our smiles yellow as we age. Drinking tea, coffee, and wine only worsens the situation as these are some of the best teeth stainers out there. And if you're a smoker, well, forget about it! Nicotine and tobacco can seep into the pores of your teeth and quickly work their magic, turning your teeth yellow or brown as quickly as pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Luckily, at Gold Coast Dental Tustin, there's a popular and effective way to get your teeth gleaming white again—our Zoom! teeth whitening services.
Dentist-recommended teeth whitening is one of the easiest, safest, and most common procedures in cosmetic dentistry. Our in-office Zoom! appointments and take-home professional whitening kits are superior to store-bought teeth whitening products. In just a single 60-minute visit to our office, you can brighten your smile by up to 8 shades! If you’re ready to enjoy all the amazing benefits of a pearly white smile, give our Tustin office a call at (714) 795-3865. We'll be happy to guide you through the whole process.
Professional Teeth Whitening vs Veneers
Deciding between our veneers or whitening procedures?
The goals may be similar, but the processes are very different.

Teeth Whitening
Professional whitening involves applying a special bleaching agent with the sole intent of lightening and brightening one's teeth. During an in-office appointment, our cosmetic dentist team will apply our Zoom! whitening gel on your teeth for three 15-minute sessions. A blue LED lamp is used to speed up the gel and get you the best results possible. In a single visit, your smile will be up to 8 shades whiter with results that can last two to three years with proper maintenance.

Porcelain Veneers
Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that are bonded over your natural tooth to change the shape and appearance of your smile. They are incredibly flexible to your specific smile needs. While professional whitening only focuses on the color of your teeth, veneers can also fix crookedness, chips and cracks, wear and tear, lumps and misshapenness, and uneven teeth. To fit your veneers, your teeth will need to be slightly shaved, which may be more intrusive than patients who only want to whiten their teeth may want.
Teeth Whitening at Home: What To Expect
Our take-home Zoom! kits can give you the same incredible results as a visit to our office.
We understand that not everyone wants to come into the office to get an amazing bright white smile. That's why we give you the option to get a professional whitening from the comfort of your own home with our take-home Zoom! whitening kits. While not as economical as a generic over-the-counter kit, a professional whitening kit is much higher quality because we are able to use it to perfectly suit your unique dental needs and give you much more incredible results! How does a take-home kit work? The process is simple. We’ll take impressions of your upper and lower teeth and use the mold to design your custom made teeth whitening trays. Once the trays are ready, you’ll come in for them
and the Zoom! bleaching gel we supply you. From then on, you’ll wear your trays, gel applied, for an hour a day for two weeks. Your trays are made to slide on smoothly and leave no way for the gel to reach anywhere except your teeth. After the two weeks are up, you’ll be able to achieve the same results as an in-office whitening. For the best results, be sure to brush, floss, and rinse your teeth before putting on your whitening trays. The application of the trays themselves should be for an hour a day, over the course of two weeks. You should also be sure not to eat, drink, or smoke when wearing the trays, and for 30 minutes after. If a professional Zoom! take-home kit sounds like the right choice for you, call us at (714) 795-3865, and we can help get you started!

Is whitening your teeth permanent?
Unfortunately, not even the best teeth whitening is permanent. Just as the foods and drinks you consume stained your teeth in the first place, they can gradually continue to do so even after we've lifted years of stains from deep in your enamel. Zoom! whitening is extremely efficient, however. As long as you watch your diet, stay away from nicotine and tobacco, and practice proper dental hygiene habits, you can see your results last you as long as 2 or 3 years. For a longer-lasting method, you may want dental veneers instead. Porcelain is resistant to stains, and your veneers can last 15 or 20 years with good maintenance.

What is the difference between laser teeth whitening and bleaching?
Laser teeth whitening functions like traditional in-office whitening, but it utilizes a laser light to further activate the whitening solution your teeth whitening dentist uses for a whiter and brighter smile. Here at Gold Coast Dental Tustin, we use the Zoom! whitening system, which uses a blue LED rather than a laser to get the same, if not better results than laser teeth whitening.

Is teeth whitening bad for your teeth?
Teeth whitening is perfectly safe for your teeth as long as the bleaching gel is used at recommended concentrations and times. Our cosmetic dentists are experts when it comes to smile teeth whitening, so we know exactly how to get your teeth the right shade that you want, even if you're using one of our take-home kits. With an over the counter teeth whitening kit, however, there's a chance that you may wear your strips too long or apply them over your gums. This can lead to tooth sensitivity that lasts for days. For the best and safest whitening, it's best that you come into our Tustin office for professional service.

How many days after teeth whitening can I eat normally?
For the first 24 to 48 hours, you should make sure to keep a careful eye on the foods and drinks you eat. Some—coffee, red wine, marinara and soy sauces, colorful berries, chocolate, and more—are very good at staining your teeth, and your teeth will be especially vulnerable to them in the day or two following your teeth whitening appointment. Even after this window passes, you should still do your best to limit these foods as best you can as they can significantly cut down how long your whitening results last.
-
Why do only parts of my teeth whiten?
Sometimes after a whitening, you may notice spots on your teeth. Those spots were already there due to your teeth enamel losing calcium, which can happen with too much fluoride exposure, sugary or acidic diets, heavy plaque on your teeth, or with bracket braces treatment. Additionally, Zoom! bleaching gel can't brighten porcelain and composite dental work such as fillings, dental bonding, or crowns.
-
Why won't my teeth whiten?
There are some instances where, for older patients, smile whitening doesn't achieve the expected results. As we age, our enamel becomes thinner, and the tooth's dentin layer underneath becomes exposed. Dentin is yellowish in color and it can't be reached by dental bleaching products. Teeth whitening doesn't go further than the enamel in order to stay perfectly safe for your teeth. For younger patients, a dental injury or medication they use may have affected the inner tooth and left it unable to be whitened.
